Pete Ippel Studio Thank You

This thank you goes out to everyone who sent me a message, gave me a thumbs up, shared their energy, drove me to the hospital, smiled, laughed, held me when I cried, cut my skull open, taught my class, wiped my ass, showered me, fed me, stuck needles in me, listened to my story attentively, put screws in my head, broke my nose, sucked out snot and puss with a vacuum, scraped infected bone out of my sinus, put cream on my bed sores, stacked pillows under my back, rubbed my feet, cleaned up my puke, gave me motor tests, PT, OT, Cog T, Psy T,and dealt with me freaking out in the MRI…I love you all, and I’m going to keep surprising everyone…even myself.

And here’s the text from the video

I have a big enough studio to walk around like this.

I have a big enough studio to jump like this.

I have a crazy enough hairdo to make my sideburns laugh.

I have enough room to SPIN!

I have enough room to walk and talk and think and be PETE again.

There’s nothing that’s going to stop me from succeeding.

I’m going to be fluent and I’m going to be beautiful and I’m going to be successful.

…and be an an artist, and be an athlete, and be a lover, and a dad, and a friend…everything I ever wanted.

And I’m going to do it because of people like you.

So thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

I love you.

ALL RISK.

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
-Martin Luther King

Pete Ippel, the son of a dancer and a musician, was born in Oak Park, Illinois and has been surrounded by the arts since birth. He moved to Morris, Illinois in 1989 and started to participate in athletics rather than dance. After high school, Pete attended Cornell University where he received a BA in psychology and a BFA in photo / digital art making. He continued to follow his sporting dreams in the high jump, which culminated in a school record leap of 7 feet 1/2 inch in 2001. In May 2004 he attained an MFA degree in the New Genres department of the San Francisco Art Institute. Presently Pete is a practicing artist whose work is in numerous private collections and has been exhibited in New York, California, and internationally. Mr. Ippel resides in Working Artists Ventura, a sustainable artist community in southern California. In addition, he teaches art, is a web developer, an active blogger, and still high jumps from time to time. As a passionate problem solver and a pragmatic optimist, Pete’s art and his life are full of exciting challenges.

  1. You have always been on the road of growth, exploration and curiosity with an excellent mind, a sense of humor and a heart full of love and gratitude. You WILL succeed in what you set out to do. I love you. I am so glad that I get to be your mom. You are an awesome son. I am so happy for you and I look forward to enjoying time with you as long as I am on this Earth. You’re welcome. It is a joy to see you through this miracle of healing.

  2. I just saw Matt last night and got the story.

Would like to have given you a thumbs up, shared my energy, smiled, laughed, cut your skull open, taught your class, etc., but I’m late to the game. Late, but VERY relieved and excited to see you jumping and spinning and making videos that are so Pete. Can’t think of a healthier-minded person to have this happen to. You’re going to be awesome, of course.

    Take care!!!

  3. JB I love reading that you enjoy my video, and thank you for your kind words. I’m going to be documenting my recovery here on http://hypermodern.net and http://peteippel.com. I have a load of ideas for new pieces, and will be producing them as soon as I am able.

I’m so pleased that the comeback is moving forward. There are a lot of hangups inside that I’m aggressively attending to…I love learning and am sticking to my plan to make it.

I affirmed last year in my artist statement that “I appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of the artist’s life. I aspire to travel, to teach, and to create while extending my exhibition record. Being nourished creatively while partaking in a challenging path is a delight, and I particularly relish learning along the way.”

And that goal has never changed.

  4. Pete!

You are wonderful. I am full of wonder when I see/hear you. So happy that you are making your sideburns laugh and that you’re going to be all you plan. You’re inspiring me to get off my ass and do what I’m a bit afraid of doing – thank you.

Thanks for the Thank You. Please visit the little church on the hill some time soon again.
